New York, New York

I can’t believe it took us four years to get around to a Manhattan debut! It won’t be four years before we return. A wonderful (sold out!) audience, a great hall, and just a positive, upbeat energy to the whole experience. Thanks for coming out to play, New York! Friend us on Facebook – that’s where the action is:

Please give us details on that fabulous encore. I know it is an arrangement of a Romanian folk tune, and you know that it brought the house down.
Let us know when it shows up on one of your CDs.
Thanks for a beautiful program and performance.

Thanks for the kind words, Robert! The encore was ‘Turceasca’ by Sapo Perapaskero of the well-known Roma band Taraf de Haidouks. There is a fantastic video on youtube of the band giving a performance of the piece. It was originally adapted for the Silk Road Ensemble by Osvaldo Golijov, and our version for strings is an adaption of that adaption, by Ljova.

    Dear FCryers,
Heard/met you at Merkin 1/11/11. Any plans to record same?

I’d like you to see/read Harold Brown’s 1937 Suite for string Orch, once in the ACA catalogue as # 1663, now in the archive of the U. of Md. in college Point. It was broadcast on the WOR Mutual network by Alfred Wallenstein and at YADDO. It was too big a project for our 10/31/09 HB Centennial, but will lend score & parts if you are careful!
Several of his students, now retired, live in Boston if you desire more info. There is lots on our website, but not that recording by Wallenstein, which is at the NYPL .

Let me know if in NYC- can talk etc

Thank you very much, Sig. We’ll be sure to look into the piece – I don’t think we were aware of it until now!
