
Double bassist Tony Flynt grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. He has served as principal bass for Opera Pacific and the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra and has performed with the Boston, Houston and San Diego Symphony Orchestras. He is currently Assistant Principal of the Springfield Symphony.
As a chamber musician, Tony has performed alongside members of the Cleveland and Vermeer quartets, the Peabody Trio, principals of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. His playing has been featured on Boston’s WGBH.
Festivals include Yellow Barn, Verbier, Tanglewood, Sarasota, Music Academy of the West, Youth Orchestra of the Americas, New York String Seminar, and Domain Forget. Tony earned his Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Rice University, cum laude, and completed a Professional Studies Certificate at the Colburn School. He is a graduate of the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, MA and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory with Todd Seeber as an Edward Hyde Cox Presidential Scholar. Former teachers include Paul Ellison, David Allen Moore, Dennis Roy and Richard Barber.
