AFC at the Kennedy Center

  • Kennedy Center 2700 F Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20566 United States (map)

PLEASE NOTE: For the health of our community, A Far Cry has ceased rehearsing and performing during the COVID-19 crisis. In addition, due to ongoing closures at our performance venues, we have to cancel our Memory Tour dates for March 2020. We are working hard with the Kennedy Center to reschedule these performances for the 2020-2021 season, and will keep you closely informed as more details become available.

Nothing makes a relationship with a piece of art quite as intimate as committing it to memory. A Far Cry challenged itself to memorize its signature piece, the Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings, and it radically transformed the interpretation. This experience was so powerful that we decided to do it again, this time on tour! The rest of the program explores other works written with memory in mind; or pieces (like the Elgar, from AFC’s first concert ever!) that come from the earlier parts of the ensemble’s collective memory. We hope you will join us for the final performance of our Memory Tour, which also happens to be A Far Cry’s Kennedy Center debut!
