Stonehenge at St. John's

  • St. John's Church 1 Roanoke Avenue Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130 United States (map)

Musical Program

Anna Thorvaldsdottir | Illumine
Paul Wiancko | Vox Petra
Ludwig van Beethoven | Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68 (“Pastoral”), arr. Michael Gotthard Fischer

Musical selections that draw inspiration from the rising sunlight, sculpture, and nature itself take you on a sonic journey to awe inspiring spaces and landscapes.

Wiancko’s Vox Petra was the basis of the program. Inspired by Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi, the work ends in a way that’s playful but also quite touching, with the sounds of chiseling and sweeping. Thorvaldsdottir evokes the sunrise and with Beethoven you get a glimpse of life in the country. Ultimately though I think all the pieces are exploratory in nature, conjuring up that sense of wonder that a place like Stonehenge inspires.
