WELCOME TO A FAR CRY’S 2023-2024 SUBSCRIPTION SEASON!

Since forming in 2007, we have been programming and playing in a “decidedly different way” from your typical classical music ensemble. A Far Cry was founded on the belief that every voice deserves to be heard; so instead of one artistic director, the collective of musicians (“Criers”) curate and submit program ideas inspired by individual curiosities, the greater musical community, and what is happening in the world at large. The result is a dynamic representation of music and collaborators across genres and backgrounds.

As a “self-conducted” group, we listen outward to each other, our collaborators and partners, and beyond to form meaningful interpretations of the music we present at every show. We rotate leadership between pieces to gain fresh perspective on works old and new, whether it’s a warhorse from the quartet literature (like Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” on our season opener) or a commission for A Far Cry (like Jungyoon Wie’s new “Prayer for Peace” premiering this March).

Together with you, our audience, we have built an extraordinary musical community inspired by shared leadership, a spirit of curiosity, and connection (i.e., “a decidedly different way”). We’re so happy you’re here and we can’t wait to see you around town and in the concert hall. Welcome to Season 17!
