A Far Cry’s 2026-2027 Season

Twenty years ago, where were you?

Maybe you remember waiting in line for concert tickets instead of refreshing your phone. Perhaps you had Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” playing on repeat on your new iPod Shuffle. Maybe Boston still felt electric after another championship run and The Departed had everyone quoting lines and humming “Shipping Up to Boston.” The iPhone had yet to arrive. The future felt close enough to imagine, but still far enough away to surprise us.

Twenty years ago, two musicians found themselves on a Jethro Tull tour bus talking with friends back home in Boston about starting something different: an orchestra without a conductor. An ensemble built on the belief that every voice matters. A group where leadership could be shared, decisions made collectively, and listening wasn’t just a musical skill, but a way of being.

Two decades later, A Far Cry is still gathered around that same idea.

People sometimes say that too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the meal. We’ve spent twenty years discovering the opposite: when everyone brings something to the table, it becomes a feast.

Season 20 is our communal table.

Across this anniversary season, nineteen Criers, multiple collaborators, and audiences like you come together to create experiences no one person could make alone. There is room here for baroque and brand new music, for celebration and reflection, for old friends and first-time listeners, with something to satisfy every musical appetite.

Thank you for helping us build this extraordinary musical community over the past twenty years. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or are joining us for the first time, we can’t wait to gather around the table with you.
